Think Like a Bookie

The best gambling systems are ones that actually give you, the player, a mathematical edge. This puts you in the role of a casino. How many casinos have you ever visited that looked like they were losing money? That is not to say that you still don't need to use wise money management even when you have an edge. If you don't, you will go broke. But if you do, you have no choice but to make money as long as the action keeps coming.

It's important to understand that concept. Most of the gambling systems on this website are bucking the house edge in casino games. So all we can do there is manage our betting intelligently to try and make a big score while controlling our risk. But you cannot make a reliable income from that type of gambling, because the worst case scenario will happen sooner or later and wipe out all of your profits.

However if you can finagle yourself an advantage, even a slight one, and still control your risk, you can make a reliable income (as long as you have continuous betting action). You will see ups and downs of course, as wagers win and lose, but as long as the action keeps coming you will have profits at the end of every month/year. There is no escaping the math in the end.

In order to get an edge you must find a counter-party who is willing to take the other side of your wagers at a disadvantage. That isn't likely to happen in a casino, outside of the live poker room or the rare casino promotion. Some people would argue that you can find this at the racebook or sportsbook, but I would vehemently disagree. The racetrack takes 18% off the top of all wagers and the horse odds are calculated after this cut is removed. Unless you have inside information from horse owners, jockeys, or track officials, you cannot overcome that.

Sports betting can theoretically be beaten playing against the bookie. A few people can do it. You are not one of them, trust me. However there is a way that you can make money from sports betting. Think about this logically now. If you can't beat the bookie, the way to win then is to be the bookie. Right? Right. There is just one problem: It's illegal and can land you in jail. Also, finding enough credit-worthy customers can be a bit of a problem.

The modern day solution to this is the betting exchange. This is an online place where people match bets with each other and the odds are set by popular supply and demand. The most popular one is Betfair; however U.S. citizens can't really play there. (If you are an American I would recommend Matchbook instead.) Betting exchanges actually welcome people like you who are willing to make a market behind sporting events and play the role of a virtual bookie. (The exchange takes a small fee from each matched wager that can easily be accounted for in the offers you put up.)

The best gambling system at a betting exchange is to play bookie. In order to do this you need to have at your disposal a line consensus for the day's sporting events. There are many of these on the internet, for example oddschecker.com. Once you know what a fair betting line is, all you need to to is search out the day's events that have room on one side or the other for you to put up an offer and get the standard bookie's juice. That is, by the way, 10%. So you want to be making offers on any event where you will win 110% of what you will lose on a fair betting line. This is fairly easy to do at most betting exchanges, especially on over/under lines.

It also really helps if you learn how to make profitable adjustments to the odds when the betting exchange line is off a little from the consensus line. This is a very common situation, and your competition usually isn't very good at this. In general look to get an extra 5% for every half-point the line is off against you (and vice-versa) for American football and basketball. For over/unders just be willing to take +110 or more for any number within a couple of points of the going line consensus.

If you manage your money well, this is a sure-fire gambling system that will reap consistent profits. Don't commit more than 3% of your bankroll to any one event - ever - no matter how much you like the side you are on, or how good of odds you can finagle. Remember you are there for the long run and every game is just another game.
